2.6 - Version Information & Title Suffixes

When a track or release needs to be distinguished from its standard version, specific accepted version terms apply — entered in a dedicated version field, not typed into the title.

2.6.1 Accepted version terms (Apple)

Apple's accepted list for track version differentiation includes: Alternate Take, Live, Instrumental, Single Version, Radio Edit, Special Format Mix, Extended, Extended Mix, Session Date Version, Incomplete, Rehearsal, Breakdown, Male Version, TikTok Version, Sped Up, Slowed Down, Lo-Fi, and Cover Version. For music videos specifically: Visualizer, Live Audio, Vertical, Lyric Video.

2.6.2 Accepted version terms (Spotify)

Spotify's version field can differentiate tracks using terms like Live, Radio Edit, or Extended Version, but Spotify's documentation is explicit that the version field must never list featured or collaborating artist names — that information belongs only in the dedicated artist credit field (2.7), never the version text.

2.6.3 Multiple version references

When a title needs more than one explanatory reference, Apple's standard places the first reference in parentheses and any additional reference in brackets: e.g. "All of Me (Tiësto's Birthday Treatment Remix) [Radio Edit]". If using a dedicated version field rather than typing directly into the title, the platform applies the correct punctuation automatically.

2.6.4 Remastered and rerecorded versions

A rerecorded track's title must include "Rerecorded" (Apple). A remastered version's title must include the remaster year, formatted as "20XX Remaster" (both platforms use this year-prefixed convention) — and critically, the original release date metadata (2.29) must still reflect the first release of the original recording, not the remaster date.

2.6.5 Singles and EPs — suffix rule

"- Single" and "- EP" belong at the end of the release title, applied automatically by the platform based on the release type classification (see 2.27) — they should not be manually typed into the track title.
