2.18 - AI-Generated & AI-Assisted Music

Spotify has a specific, current policy on AI voice impersonation that distinguishes unauthorized cloning from legitimate use. This article reflects Spotify's own documented position alongside Madverse's submission requirements.

2.18.1 Spotify's voice impersonation policy

Spotify will remove music that impersonates another artist's voice without that artist's permission — whether through AI voice cloning or any other method. This applies whether or not the uploader claims to BE the artist, and even when the impersonated artist's name does not appear anywhere in the metadata or credits, as long as the vocals are clearly recognisable as that specific artist's voice. Spotify's policy notes exceptions for certain forms of parody.

2.18.2 How Spotify enforces this

Spotify cannot proactively distinguish unauthorized voice cloning from a legitimately cleared collaboration or sample. Enforcement requires a claim submitted by the impersonated artist (or someone acting on their behalf) through Spotify's legal report form, under the "Publicity / Likeness" report category.

2.18.3 What requires Madverse's AI-Generated Content disclosure

A release requires the AI-Generated Content disclosure at upload when vocals, instrumentation, or both were substantially produced by an AI generation system rather than a human performer or composer. AI-assisted production tools — AI mastering, AI stem separation — used by a human artist do not require this disclosure. Professional plan subscribers have access to Madverse's AI mastering tools as part of their plan.

2.18.4 What is not accepted

  • AI-synthesised voices of real, identifiable artists without their documented consent (aligns directly with Spotify's policy in 2.18.1)
  • Large-scale catalog flooding designed to exploit streaming royalties through volume
  • Content using a famous artist's name or likeness to mislead listeners — this also falls under Apple's broader Misleading Content rule (see 2.30)

2.18.5 AI-generated artwork

See 2.2.5 — AI-generated cover art is permitted subject to watermark removal and visual integrity requirements.
