7.9 - Pitching to Spotify Editorial Playlists

This article is the marketing-context companion to the full editorial pitching mechanics already covered in 4.4 — see that article for the complete eligibility rules and timing requirements.

7.9.1 The core requirement

Deliver at least 7 days before release date for editorial consideration (4.4.1) — this is the same 7-day window covered in 2.23, not an additional pitching-specific delay.

7.9.2 Writing an effective pitch

  • Be specific about genre, mood, and culture tags — vague pitches are harder for editors to place
  • Mention anything genuinely distinctive about the release's story (a notable collaborator, a meaningful production detail) rather than generic promotional language
  • Keep it concise — editors review a high volume of pitches

7.9.3 What editors look for

Production quality, genre/mood fit for active playlists, and — per Spotify's own framing in 4.4.4 — pitching is one input among many, not a guarantee of placement.
