11.5 - How Madverse Detects Streaming Fraud

A high-level overview of Madverse's own fraud detection layer, distinct from - but complementary to - the DSP-level artificial streaming detection covered in 5.13.

11.5.1 The relationship to DSP-level detection

As established in 5.13.5, Madverse operates its own detection layer in addition to relying on DSP-reported artificial streaming. This article covers Madverse's own system specifically.

11.5.2 What Madverse's system looks at, at a high level

  • **Growth-rate analysis** — streaming growth that deviates sharply from organic patterns typical for the release's age, genre, and existing audience size
  • **Engagement-pattern signals** — listening behavior inconsistent with genuine fan engagement (e.g., extremely short or suspiciously uniform listen durations across a large volume of streams)
  • **Geographic and device-pattern anomalies** — concentrated activity from patterns inconsistent with an artist's known audience geography or typical device-type distribution

11.5.3 What happens when something is flagged

See 5.14 for the notification and response process, and 11.6 for the penalty and appeal framework that follows a confirmed finding.
